Thalia Marie Dooley

June 9, 1932 ~ April 8, 2020

Thalia Marie (Harris) Dooley transitioned from this life on April 8, 2020 at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Kennesaw, Georgia due to heart failure. Thalia was 87 years old, and was born on June 9, 1932 to Carrie Boyd Harris (1888-1981) and John Henry Harris (1886-1960) in Naples, Texas. Thalia was the youngest of eleven children born to this union. She grew up on a farm on land that was owned by her grandfather, Mabe Boyd (1842-1927) which dates back to the 1880s. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kristi Felice Dooley (1963-1986), her parents and all of her siblings: Henry G. Harris (1907-1917), Eddie E. Harris, Sr. (1909-1996), Florida May (Harris) Nickleberry, Weeks, (1912-1934), Bonnie B. Harris (1914-1982), William H. Harris (1916-1918), Amos C. Harris (1919-1989), Luellen D. (Harris) Shaw, (1921-1987), Herbert Londell Harris (1923-1998), Oneida Faye (Harris) Austin (1926-2010), Ermarene (Harris) Macedon, Dugas (1929-2005). Thalia graduated from Carver High School (Naples, Texas) in May 1950. She received her bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Huston-Tillotson University in June 1955. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and also sang soprano in the chorus while in college. After graduation, she spent her career as a primary and secondary education instructor. Thalia was married for 41 years. Her ex-husband Charles E. Dooley also preceded her in death (1932-2013). She retired from Clayton County Public School System in Georgia in 1995, where she taught special needs students at Forest Park High School. Thalia was an avid reader and loved crime, mystery and psychological thriller type books. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, as well as sudoku, and cooking for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker as well. Every holiday or special occasion meal she made was without question delicious, as well as memorable. She was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, grandchildren, great grandchild and their families: Edwolyn Dooley-Higgins, (Olivia, Madison, Kim, Kenyarda), Alesia (Jerrell) Carroll (Jerrell Jr, Whitney, Jonathan, Brianna), John Dooley, Ann (Kenneth) Mills (Jarrod, Zachary, Jayce), Mary Jo Dooley (Brittany McGriff), Earnestine Dooley, and an abundance of loving relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Thalia Marie Dooley.
