Karen Ruth Wheelock Locue

Karen Ruth Wheelock Locue, a resident of Union City, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the age of 71. Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth McManus Wheelock Vance, father, John Parker Wheelock, stepfather, Isadore Vance, Sr., sister Barbara Ann Wheelock Roberts and stepbrother, Isadore Vance, Jr. Karen is survived by three sisters, Sharyn Wheelock Wilson, Catherine Vance and Helen Wheelock Young (Edwin); beloved nieces and nephews, Bonita Roberts Gatewood (Russell), Tracy A. Wilson, Justin D. Roberts, Rubben H. Wilson (Michele), Aucet U. Wilson (Nicole), Brian G. Young and Michael J. Young, Christopher Brown and Courtney Brown. Karen is also survived by a host of family and friends, including her aunt, Carol McManus and Uncle, James Peters, Sr, and cousins. Sharing her memory is lifelong friends, Cheryl McBride Brown, Cheryl Lewis, and Daniel Pennywell. Karen was a graduate of Walter L. Cohen Sr. High School, New Orleans, LA. class of 1969. Karen also attended St. Mary’s Dominican College and Southern University in New Orleans. Karen worked for many years in the travel and transportation industry with Midway Airlines, Delta Queen Riverboat Company, AirTran Airways and ended her career with Southwest Airlines. Karen was a woman of strong faith and believed in the power of prayer. She loved and valued her family, friends and co-workers. She had a passion for helping others, she embraced the Asian culture, and she loved to travel. Karen would often take assignments in other cities to train and help where they were shorthanded. Karen thrived as an events planner for her job, where she organized airport events such as Easter Egg Hunts, Second Lines, Dress Up Tea Parties, Football Team events and she loved to dress up as her alter ego, (Bubbles) the clown. Being a New Orleans native, Karen loved her "New Orleans Saints". She wore her Black and Gold with pride and would not hesitate to shout out “Who Dat” in any arena. Karen was a beautiful and proud woman but very private. Karen was admired by many, loved by all and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the Southern Cremations and Funerals-Fairburn, 431 SW Broad Street, Fairburn Georgia, A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with interment to follow in Holly Hills Memorial Park, Dogwood Garden.
