Tony Gene Riggs

June 22, 1932 ~ July 22, 2021

Tony Gene Riggs, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 22, 2021, just one month after he reached his 89th birthday. Tony was born in Ridgely, TN and his family migrated to Southeast Missouri, where he met his wife, Sue Shirley. They married in the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville, Missouri and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in February. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Docia, his brothers and sisters, Lanal, Donald, Connie, Wilma, Barney, Cecil, Elwood, Grace, and his grandson, Michael John Riggs. Tony left behind his wife, Sue Riggs; 2 sons, Tony Michael Riggs and his wife, Teri, Dennis Elwood Riggs; 3 grandsons, Dennis Anthony, Jesse, and Jacob; 3 granddaughters, Katie (Matthew), Emily, and Sarah (Andrea); 12 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Ezra, Ruthie, Noah, Sofia, Ava, Anthony, Shellie, Kaylyn, Dominick, Hazel and Bentley; 2 great great-grandchildren, Hailey and Maycee; many nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held, Saturday, July 31, 2021, 11 am at Southern Cremations and Funerals at Cheatham Hill. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am. Final resting place will be Friday, August 6, 2021, at 10 am, in Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Tony to the CDC foundation.
