Reverdy Ransom Wilborn is 1 of 9 children born in Elloree SC to Presiding Elder of Shiloh A.M.E., Isaac Waymer Wilborn Sr. and Mrs. Marie Elethia Waymer Wilborn. At age 89, on September 25, 2021, he transitioned to his eternal home to be with our Lord.
Reverdy was a member and steward at Queen Chapel A.M.E. Church of Hilton Head Island faithfully serving the Lord with reverence, honor and dignity.
Reverdy was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps during the Korean War providing security at home and abroad. He was a skilled and trained expert marksman.
Reverdy was a Mounted Police officer in the Philadelphia Fairmount Park Police force. He retired as a Sergeant of the Philadelphia Police Force after 20 years of dedicated service. His keen business insight and entrepreneurial spirit, allowed him to identify several successful service market niches. His innovative and hands on approach to business resulted in his owning and operating several successful long term businesses. While residing in Philadelphia, he owned and operated a local income tax preparation business. He also managed and operated a pharmacy as well as a local grocery store. He relocated his family from Philadelphia to Hilton Head SC where he began a locksmith, security guard and burglar alarm business named ‘Wilborn’s Locks and Alarms’. Assisted by his wife Helen, Wilborn’s Locks and Alarms was a successful black owned full service locksmith and burglar alarm company servicing Hilton Head Island and Bluffton SC Lowcountry for 30 plus years.
Reverdy and his Dearly departed wife of 63 years, Mrs. Helen Johnson Wilborn, raised 5 children - [Reverdy] Ransom Wilborn Jr., Ronald W. Wilborn, Richard B. Wilborn, Carol A. Wilborn and Vesey D. Wilborn. Reverdy leaves to his memory his brothers Isaac Wilborn, Jr., Joel Wilborn, grandchildren - Jansen Holmes, Joshua Wilborn, Deidra Wilborn, Tory Wilborn, Rakeem, Morgan Wilborn, Amber Wilborn, Marissa Wilborn and Jada Wilborn, Portia Perry and Falon Pettigrew, 10 great grandchildren, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Reverdy was known to be an honest, gentle, humble and loving person. He was also recognized as a strong, fearless man filled with determination. Reverdy was as a ‘man of action’ and always ‘on the move’. His dedication, love for this family, and hard work proved to be an inspiration to his family and to everyone fortunate to know him.
