Leonard Keener

August 26, 1952 ~ December 25, 2021

LEONARD “BUBBA” KEENER was born on the 26th of August 1952, in Detroit, Michigan to Mr. Johnny Keener and Ms. Evelyn Davis. He moved to Birmingham, AL with his parents and later settled in Conyers, Georgia. Leonard Keener attended Carol W. Hayes High School in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated in 1970. Following high school, Leonard proceeded to attend trade school and made his mark in the workforce. He served as a dedicated supervisor at the CNN Center and at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church followed by retiring as a painter and business owner. Leonard, aka “Bubba”, was a very fun and outgoing individual who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends playing a good game of bid whist, pool, or traveling with his lovely wife. He also enjoyed grilling and had a way to everyone’s heart through their stomach, especially when it came to his infamous salmon croquettes. Leonard was a very hard worker who loved his entire family very much. He was the type of guy you could count on as a protector and provider. He also enjoyed putting a smile on everyone’s face that he encountered, especially his grandbabies. He truly knew no stranger. Surrounded by his loving family, God called him home on (Saturday afternoon), December 25, 2021. He reunites with other saints including his beloved parents and his siblings, Johnny Burnette Keener and Olivian Keener. Leonard leaves cherished memories with a family who was blessed with having him as part of their lives. His wife, Jeannette Keener; daughter, Crystal Spooney (Teyon); sons, Gary Dubose (Shay), Senaca Williams (Nekea), and Tezo Jackson; siblings, Donald Williams (Able), Patricia Henry, and Tracy Jarvis (Beverly), 11 incredible grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and close friends.

  1. I remember the laugh and the huge smile which came upon Little Keener face, as I entered his home, and the young ladies would scream, run and hide. I had to laugh at myself. He would yell out, “Scoville!”, everyone in the room would laugh. We sat around in his home and at the table and tell a few jokes and some drinks and play Bid Whist or Spade. Little Keener house was the place to be any day of the week. What a time we had no matter where we went. I can hear people saying, “here they come,” open the door and let them in. “Leonard was always the life of the party.”I miss you, Bubba! Crazy Scovil
