Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Joseph (José) Martinez – age 86, was called home on 20 January, 2022
He is survived by his most loyal, dedicated, and loving wife, Geraldine (Gerri) Martinez, their six
children: Tony & Kim Martinez, Rosie & Brian Summers, Rodney & Lynn Martinez, Tanya &
Jimmy Powers, Mitchell & Silvia Martinez, and Gary Martinez, and many beautiful & loving
grandchildren; his Sisters Alicia Ford, and Angelina Yellowlees, and brother Mario Martinez. He
is preceded in death by Louis & Marie Martinez, Anthony & Patricia Saponari, and the entire
host of our heavenly family.
José was born and raised on a farm in a small rural town in northern Ohio in 1935. He met the
Love of His Life (Gerri) in 1969 through her brothers Gary, and Glen Saponari; they married in
1970. José & Gerri raised 6 children and were lovingly married for 51 years.
José was truly one of a kind. His handsome face, humor, honesty, simple wisdom, and the
purity of his heart made him larger than life. He truly lived his love for Jesus & Mary, faithfully
carrying his Cross daily. José never failed to remind us of the great gift he is now enjoying; as he
always said: “Heaven is like Christmas every day.” The comfort of his voice will forever burn in
our hearts as we [all] long for the day when we are with him again.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, on the 10th of February, 12:00pm, at Saint Catherine
of Sienna Catholic Church 1618 Ben King Rd, Kennesaw, GA 30144, following interment at
Cheatham Hill Memorial Park 1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064, and proceeding reception.
All family and friends are welcome to celebrate José’s life.
The Martinez family would like to thank Fr. Valery, and Fr. Neil of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church for their dedication and devotion to serving the Children of God. In lieu of flowers - bereavement donations can be
made to The National Shrine of Divine Mercy Ministries – Please leave a prayer intention.
