Lula Mae Knight

May 15, 1939 ~ March 30, 2022

Lula Mae “Serwa” Knight She led with love… Lula Mae “Serwa” Knight, daughter of the late Leslie Savage Sr. and Lillie Mae Finley, was born on May 15, 1939, in Foley, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her siblings Hattie Lee Savage, Saul Savage, Betsy Anne Savage, Leslie Savage Jr., Mary Alice Savage, and Sara Finley. She is survived by her siblings, Willie Savage, Earl Savage, Mattie Pearl Moore, and Tammy Chapman. In addition, she is survived by her five children, Tonja Simon Keith, Eric “Cheo” Simon, Vanessa “Ayanna” Simon, Avis Knight, Adolphus Knight III and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She graduated from Prestwick High School in Washington County, Alabama. She was united in holy matrimony to William Simon and then later married Adolphus Knight II. She was a loving mother, generous friend, and devoted parishioner. After she relocated to Atlanta from Virginia, she became a member of the Shrines of the Black Madonna of the Pan-African Orthodox Christian Church. While there, she received her African name Serwa which means “woman of noble character” and it represented the essence of her persona well. Once her children became adults, she attended Atlanta Area Technical College for Carpentry and Culinary Arts. When she graduated, she became a pastry chef for the Hilton Corporation until her retirement. Later in life, she became a parishioner of Word Alive Christian Center. She always preached to her children—and anyone else she was able to--that God is love and to always love one another. Forgiveness was another practice she embraced, modeled, and preached as well. Her favorite color was green, and she was a kind and gentle spirit. Mother Serwa was a woman of noble character that led with LOVE.
