Rubye Jennings

August 4, 1946 ~ May 4, 2022

Ruby Nell Buford was born in Blakey, GA on August 4, 1946 to the late Ruth Evelyn Brannon and Japhus E. Buford. She slipped away quietly on May 4, 2022. Ruby knew at an early age that she was one of a kind; she decided to add some pizzazz to her name and added an “E” for Rubye! She would always say because she was feisty, sassy, and socially confident. Raised in Albany, GA, she was baptized at The River Road Church of Christ. She attended Monroe High School and after graduation she went to Albany State College where she received her BS in education. She later moved to Boston, MA and met her first husband Gene Amos who succumbed. She relocated back to Georgia and was employed with the City of Atlanta Water Department for 15 years and retired in 1995. After retirement, she worked other jobs to keep busy including Morehouse School of Medicine, Eye Consultants, and other small jobs. After many years together, she married the love of her life James Jennings uniting two families. Rubye placed her membership with Greenbriar Church of Christ and also visited the St. James Methodist Church with her loving husband. Rubye had such passion for life and a love for spending time with family and friends, shopping and fashion, meeting new people and giving them new names (never meeting a stranger)! She also loved her desserts and a good cigarette afterwards, working in her yard, and to love her you had to know her black cats Muff, Sam, Chester, Bebe, and lastly Chuck who is the odd ball because he’s big and orange. Just being around her, she always made you laugh and these are only a few endearing things about her we loved. Rubye leaves to cherishing her memories, her son Edward (Yolanda) Buford, stepson Rodney (La-nan) Dudley of La Grange, GA, stepdaughters April Jennings, Traci Thomas, Shonte ( Bernard) Ellis of Atlanta, GA her siblings Sharkley (Delores) Buford of McDonough, GA, Jerome (Carolyn) Buford, and Janice (Collier) Hightower of Warner Robins, GA, granddaughter Kirsten (Nicholas) Johnson of Atlanta, GA, one grandson Allen Buford who preceded her in death, 6 great grands, a host of many relatives and friends, and a compassionate caregiver Stephanie Pierce.
