Bob Curless, 77, of Marietta, GA was Promoted to Glory on July 4th, 2022. He passed away after a long illness at his home with his wife of 22 years, Patricia Curless, by his side. Bob was an officer in The Salvation Army ministry for 30 years. He worked at the Georgia Divisional Headquarters in the Service Extension Department before becoming the Social Services Director of the Marietta Corps. He was a proud graduate of the University of Miami with a music and business degree. He did his graduate studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. In college he specialized in playing the tuba with the Miami band after earning a full scholarship for his talents. He was a member of the Southern Territorial Brass band and played a number of years in the Georgia Brass band. He was born July 25, 1945, to Violet Watson and Wilbur Carl Curless in Ellwood, Indiana. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Robert Andrew (Heather) Curless, a daughter, Jennifer (Marcus) Huntley, and two stepchildren, Brian Aycock, and Lisa Aycock who contributed to his years of caregiving. He has 5 grandchildren, Heidi, Maddux, and Leisel Curless along with Braylon and Jordan Huntley. His one brother Dr. Wilbur (Bill) and his wife Pat Curless still reside in West Palm Beach where they both were raised. He was preceded in death by his father who died when he was 17 years old and his beloved mother who saw that he continued through college. Bob was proud of his service to God through The Salvation Army and his musical experiences. He enjoyed traveling, movies, drawing, the outdoors, and talking with anyone that he knew or encountered. He loved watching sports and especially his Miami Hurricanes.
Arrangements are being made by Southern Cremations and Funerals at Cheatham Hill.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Salvation Army Marietta Corps at 202 Waterman Street SE, Marietta, GA 30060 on Saturday, July 9th, 2022, at 2:00PM. The doors will open at 1:30PM. The service will include a tribute by his lifelong friend, Tony Barrington.
In his memory, the family is asking that donations be made to The Salvation Army Marietta Corps to assist in their community outreach.
