Kathleen “Kathy” Ann (Thieman) Schaefer, 74, passed away peacefully at home in Woodstock, Georgia on August 3, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born on March 8, 1948 in Gallipolis, Ohio to Richard and Eileen (Schipper) Thieman. Kathy graduated from Mother of Mercy Catholic High School in Cincinnati, OH, Class of 1966 and continued her education and training to become a dental assistant. On December 12, 1969, she married Ronald Roy Schaefer in Cincinnati, OH. They were blessed with one daughter, Laurie, and two sons, Gregory and Eric.
Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She worked for many years as a dental assistant and medical receptionist. Her loving faith in God and joy in serving others bloomed to its fullest at Transfiguration Catholic Church as she shed her youthful shyness and brought her beauty and sparkling personality to the forefront for 30 years in the wonderful Transfiguration community. Equally important to her was spending fun times with her family. Her infectious smile and kind and loving spirit lit up the room wherever she went.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ronald Roy Schaefer, and their children, Laurie Schaefer (Michael) Sabbarese of Verona, WI; Gregory Ronald Schaefer (Deanna) of Marietta, GA; and Eric Matthew Schaefer (Danica) of Canton, GA. Kathy is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Kaitlyn Grace Schaefer (25), Dominic Michael Sabbarese (24), Kiersten Mary Elizabeth Sabbarese (22), Gregory Cole Schaefer (22), Grayson Michael Sabbarese (11), Allison Catherine Schaefer (8), and Brittany AnnMarie Schaefer (5). Her siblings and their spouses also survive: James Thieman (Carol), of Cincinnati, OH; Patricia Thieman Volkerson (Paul), of Orlando, FL; and Michael Thieman (Jill), of Orlando, FL; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Caiden Eric Schaefer, whom she met for the first time in Heaven.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia at 2 o’clock in the afternoon followed by a reception in the Family Life Center.
