Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Cheryl Jane Land Lipponen died in her home on October 18, 2022 after 73 years of life. She is survived by her husband, Osmo Lipponen, her children, Jessica and Richard, daughter-in-law Marianna, and granddaughter Eva.
Cheryl was born in Charlottesville, VA, raised her children in Ridgefield, CT and, later in life, she claimed St. Pete Beach, FL, as her home. Her final years were spent in Acworth, GA.
Cheryl’s delights included sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico, ripe soft cheese, dancing, shell-collecting, fine art, and quality time with her loved ones. Her interest in people was as broad as her interest in music: from Andrea Bochelli to Madonna, Richard Berry to Rachmaninoff. She was exceptionally caring and empathetic, and excellent at loving her friends and family.
In 1997, Cheryl met and fell in love with her husband, Osmo, beginning two decades of international travel and living abroad. Together, Osmo and Cheryl served the Finnish diplomatic corps in Russia, Croatia, the US, Albania, and Pakistan. Everywhere she lived and traveled, Cheryl was known for connecting with people “from all walks of life.” Honoring the dignity in all people, she both learned from and helped those whose lives were more difficult than hers.
Cheryl will be missed by close friends and relatives who felt the depth of her love and freely returned their love to her. It is those relationships that sustained her across great physical distances and during her final years.
Cheryl felt most at home near the sea. At her request, her ashes will be spread in the Chesapeake Bay this Spring.
In lieu of funeral services or flowers, and to celebrate her legacy of enduring love, donations can be made to Woven's Cheryl Jane Land Lipponen Memorial Fund at https://www.wovenhome.org/cjllmf (linked below under memorial contributions).

Jess, Richard and Marianna,
With our heartfelt sympathy. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
God Bless Cheryl.
Love,
