Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Sandra Sonja Lila Lekander “Sandy” Weers was born in 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Elma and James Lekander. Her father passed away in the early 1950s, leaving her mom to raise seven kids alone until she married Edsel Davidson.
Sandy grew up on the family farm in Kimball, MN with her six sisters and one brother, sometimes sleeping multiple kids to a bed and helping her mom do work hanging wallpaper. After graduating from Kimball High School, Sandy worked in the headquarters of Lutheran Brotherhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In 1962, Sandy met her husband George David Weers on a blind date set up by a friend. The two were married on May 4, 1963, and lived in Minneapolis, MN, Dallas, TX, Picayune, MS, Slidell, LA, and Oak Ridge, TN, before settling in Marietta, GA in 1970.
In Marietta, Sandy became active in Faith Lutheran Church and School, where she volunteered as part of the Altar Guild, the Stephen Ministry, and serving many meals and school lunches (even after her kids had graduated). Sandy enjoyed many camping trips and adventures as a Girl Scout Leader for both of her daughters. While she typically stayed quietly in the background, Sandy was always ready to bring a cake, send a card, or give a small gift to family, friends, and church members.
Sandy is survived by her husband, George Weers of Marietta; two sisters, Jane Westrup and Grace Norgren; daughter, Melissa Weers; daughter, Sherri Weers Hunt and her husband, Greg Frost; and four grandchildren, Anastazjia “Tasha” Ray, Gabriella Martin, and Balin and Athena Hunt.
Visitation and services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Marietta, GA beginning at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Internment at Cheatham Hill Cemetery in Marietta will follow at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent via Venmo to @Sandy-Memorial (if asked, associated phone number is 703.927.3605) or PayPal to @epaSherri. Funds received will be donated to some of the charities that Sandy supported most frequently.

Sandra was a Loving, Kind Aunt, young enough to play with us when she babysat us, just old enough to make us behave. I loved her.
Gods Peace to her family. Sincere condolences from Mike and Dawn Maruska
Thank you so much, Dawn. Mom loved you very much.
Sorry I am so late in sending a memory but I just found out she passed away. I will always remember when I was little and my mom Ida talked Sandra into staying over night with us, but Sandra said she did not have any pjs. My mom gave her my dad’s Harvey pjs. And one time when my dad was sick he was wearing the pjs and my brother and I asked him why he was wearing Sandra’s pjs. My dad Harvey Luoma and Sandra were cousins. Janice Luoma
