Leland C Chambers

October 27, 1933 ~ December 26, 2022

Leland “Whitie” C Chambers, 89, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away on December 26, 2022. Leland was born October 27,1933, in Cobb County to Cas and Lucille Pruitt Chamber. He lived his entire life in Cobb County. He started his career at Lockheed right out of high school. He was the Program Control Manager and coordinator of all C-130 Production Flight Activity. He enjoyed his career and was grateful for his years at Lockheed. He was awarded the Hercules Country Employee of the Year in 1985. Leland retired from Lockheed in 1993 after 41 years of service. Leland was a faithful member of Kennesaw United Methodist Church. Leland had faithfully served in many capacities at KUMC. He served as president of the Elton Adams Sunday School Class and president of the Happy Voyagers. He had been on the Board of Trustees, many committees, and enjoyed being an usher. He and Betty served as co-leaders of the “Dinner for Six” groups. Leland loved Kennesaw United Methodist Church. Leland is preceded in death by his parents, Cas and Lucille Chambers; his brother, Irving Chambers; his son, Charlie Chambers; and his great-grandson, John Tate Bottoms. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Betty L. Chambers. Also surviving are his daughter, Linda (Gary) Brown and stepchildren, Mel (Patty) Chumley, Melissa (Gary) Bottoms, Marc (Teri) Chumley; his sister, Frances Chambers; his grandchildren, Jason and Adam Brown, Cassie Chambers, David (Brittney) Bottoms, Jonathan (Kelly) Bottoms, Jamie (Jared) Jones, Laura (Bryan) Higginbotham, Kristen (Ian) Brookmire, and Kaitlin (Matt) Cox, Jessica Sutton, Lee Chumley, and Samantha Green. He is also survived by 10 great- grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the narthex at Kennesaw United Methodist Church for visitation. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary, led by the Reverends Alex Stroud and Laurie Klingenberg.
