Gene Edward Wade

August 4, 1942 ~ January 14, 2023

Gene Edward Wade, 80, passed away on January 14th, 202,3 with his wife and daughter by his side. He was predeceased by his son Chris. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nelsie; his daughter Kimberly and her husband Tom; his granddaughter Lauren and her husband Chase; his granddaughter Heather and her husband Sam; his sister Marlene; his beloved niece Pam, her daughter Michelle and Michelle’s husband Damon, and their daughter Morgan; and many other family and friends. Gene was born in Blanche, AL on August 4th, 1942, to Oscar and Janie Wade. He lived in Chicago for 8 years where he graduated from High School before moving to Atlanta, GA. He proudly served his country in the US Army for 6 years of active and reserve duty during the Vietnam War era, working as a transportation specialist and attaining the rank of Specialist 4. He spent much of his working life running his own small business selling, servicing and repairing cash registers. He retired in 2005 after many years of hard work and issues with his health. He raised two loving children: Chris, who tragically lost his life in an accident at the age of 19, and Kimberly, a Nurse Practitioner who currently lives in Ohio. He enjoyed hunting deer, boar and wild turkey and made many lifelong friends and memories in the pursuit of that hobby, most recently on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Alaska in 2019. He also enjoyed the “full time” job of being Papa to his two granddaughters, and with Nelsie watched them grow up into two beautiful, successful women. He and Nelsie travelled all over the country with the family, visiting Disneyworld, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta to name a few, as well as a cruise to the Bahamas. He was a creative, kind and generous man with a quick sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
