Coretha Williams

August 14, 1952 ~ February 21, 2023

CORETHA WILLIAMS Coretha was born August 14, 1952, in Forrest City, Arkansas. She was the third child and first girl born to the union of Fletcher Mae and Preston Williams who both preceded her in death, along with other siblings including Preston Jr, Stanley, and Prentiss. Coretha attended elementary and high school in St. Louis, Missouri, where she exceled as an all-around honor student. As a participate of a select group of students, she attended a notable prep school that prepared her for higher education and awarded her an academic scholarship. She later extended her education where she was prepared to work in administration which would serve her through 30 years of public service with DeKalb County where she retired. Coretha and Robert Duncan were joined in marriage during which Catrena was born. A few years later, her son Changa was born. As a very loving talented mom with “gifted hands”, she believed in the scripture, spare the rod, spoil the child. Changa really developed a relationship with the scripture that she held so closely. Coretha loved her family and was the gatekeeper of family values that she wanted instilled in everyone throughout the family. She felt those values should’ve been upheld during a time when values were continually diminishing. As life moved forward, she later united in marriage to Said Abtiow. Coretha was a shaker and a mover, never one to stay in one spot too long. She has lived in St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta and Killeen. She has had many endeavors in her travels beyond where she lived such as her love for recreational parks and outdoor facilities. She enjoyed sightseeing and loved traveling the Colorado mountains. Coretha enjoyed worthy causes such as volunteering and working with organizations that served senior citizens. She was a unique seamstress, fashionable, and athletic. Some of her favorite movies were Indiana Jones, Cooley High and Lean On Me. Her favorite colors were royal blue and purple. Coretha leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter Catrena, one son Changamire, three grands Brandon, Courtney, Boston, 1great grandson Elijah, two sisters Connie, Gloria, two brothers Trent and Terry with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
