Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Jack “Sonny” McHugh Jr, 74, passed away peacefully at Cobb Tranquility Hospice on March 19th, 2023. After fighting a brave battle for almost 10 years, he is now at peace.
He was born in Atlanta, GA on May 3rd, 1948, to Jack and Marjorie (Gorman) McHugh.
Sonny was self-employed as a Tag & Title Specialist for over 40 years. When he wasn’t working, you could likely find him at the Decatur Sports Club in Irwinton, GA, where he was a member for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter and loved to be one with nature in the great outdoors. Sonny was a man of many talents, including making magic in the kitchen. He loved to cook, especially for those who loved to eat, the more people who showed up each evening, the better. Everyone knew how Sonny welcomed all guests and always had an extra plate at his table. Those who came loved to watch him cook and tried to get some of Sonny’s delicious recipes, especially his famous Brunswick Stew.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Donna McHugh, his son Larry McHugh (Melanie), his grandchildren Alyssa McHugh of Dallas, GA, Michael McHugh of Nashville, TN, Tara Tinsley (Tyler) of Dallas, GA and their children Abby and Hunter, and his sister Jan Hackney of Monroe, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Marjorie McHugh, his son Steve McHugh, and several loved brothers and sisters.
