Herbert Martin Kohn passed away in his home in Marietta Georgia on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the age of 94. Herb was born on November 3, 1928, to parents George W Kohn and Ida Mae Kohn in McIvor Michigan. He graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and a MS degree in Engineering Science from University Toledo. Herb was a Registered Professional Engineer. He started his career working in the energy field, designing equipment, and providing supervision for burning fuel for powering large industrial equipment. In the last years of Herb's career, he worked as a consulting engineer at numerous nuclear plants. As a volunteer, Herb was instrumental in the start of the St. Vincent De Paul Society Marietta thrift store and managed the overall operation for several years. Herb also volunteered as an election worker for the Cobb County Election Office for twenty years.
Herb was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church where he had many cherished friends. He was an avid Braves and Michigan State fan who treasured spending time with his beloved family. Herb and his loving wife Regina Cyr Kohn were married for 64 years. They have six children, Christopher Kohn, Coleen (Eric) Northeim, Eric (Ann) Kohn, Kathryn (Porter) Gnann, Kevin (Ann) Kohn and Mary (Daryl) Reynolds, twelve grandchildren and one great grandson. Herb is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, George, Howard, Allen, and Leighton and four sisters, Helen Eckstein, Minnie Jordan, Alma Cozad, Arlene Daniels and infant granddaughter Lauren Kohn.
Herb’s life will be celebrated in a funeral mass at St. Ann Catholic Church in Marietta on April 18, at 11am. Interment will be in the church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Ann Catholic Church.
