Charles Raburn Snead

December 10, 1951 ~ April 16, 2023

On April 16, 2023, Charles Raburn Snead, husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 71 following a lengthy illness. Charles is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna Pruitt Snead, sons Brian and Joshua, daughter-in-law Johanna, and one grandson Lennart Charles. Charles was born in Atlanta, GA to Doris Johnson Snead and Claude Bartley Snead, Jr. He is survived by his brother Bartley and sister-in-law Toni and was predeceased by his sister, Sue. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and some friends. In his younger years, he was affectionately known as “Booney” by his family and friends, a nickname he apparently gave himself around the age of two. Although his nickname went somewhat by the wayside as he grew up, he never completely outgrew it. Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years and was honorably discharged in 1973. He always remembered his time in the service as an honor, but that he sure was happy to return home! Charles was a homebody at heart and enjoyed yardwork, home projects, and spending time in his workshop. He was an avid and talented woodworker who will always be remembered for the many beautiful pieces of furniture he made over the years and the gifts he made and bestowed upon friends. His own home reflects his creativity and unique designs. There was absolutely nothing that Charles could not make, repair, figure out, build or design. A sense of humor is a gift and Charles certainly had one. He enjoyed practical jokes and loved surprising his wife, Donna, with gifts. His imagination of ways to create surprises was unique and fun. He once surprised Donna with a beautiful necklace that he put inside an empty eggshell, and then back in the egg carton to be found on Christmas morning. Imagine his dismay when said egg was nearly thrown away because Donna thought it felt too light and must not be good for cooking. Something that Charles will be remembered for is the special way he had with animals and how he was especially partial to dogs. He loved dogs, and they always loved him back. As Charles health began to fail and he could no longer do the activities he enjoyed, he spent an enormous amount of time sitting on the couch with his devoted and beloved dog, Marni, talking to her just like she was human and could understand him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite animal rescue group or your local humane society. A Celebration of Life will be held for Charles on May 1, 2023, at 2:00. The location is Southern Cremations and Funerals located at 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, Ga 30064. Following the service, everyone is invited to stay for visitation and refreshments.
