Joseph “Joe” Wujcik, age 91, passed away peacefully at home in Marietta, GA on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Joe was born on March 16, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the late Teofil Dominick Wujcik and Josephine Twarog Mazur Wujcik. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Brown Wujcik and grandson, Jonathan Carl Wujcik. He is survived by his five children, Victoria Joanne Wujcik, Mary Ellyn Wujcik, Joseph Claude Wujcik, Janice Claudette Wujcik, Diana Leigh Wujcik-Cole and son-in-law Ronald S. Cole. He was a caring and affectionate PawPaw to his grandchildren Brittany de la Cour, Kalie Feeser, Jeffrey Wujcik, Chase Wujcik, Tori Wujcik, Amanda Cole, Samantha Cole, Nicholas Cole and lovingly known as PawPaw Wu to seven great-grandchildren, multiple extended grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He was an endearing uncle, great-uncle, and great-great-uncle to many.
Joe graduated Class of 1946 from Saint James Parochial School in Chicago, IL and Class of 1950 from Weber High School in Chicago, IL where he excelled in baseball leading to an offer to attend John Carroll University in Ohio. He ultimately chose the military over a baseball career and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 – 1971 and is a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Upon retiring in San Antonio, TX he and his family relocated to Atlanta, GA. He graduated from the Georgia Police Academy in 1972 and ultimately retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1994 following twenty years of service as a Postal Police Officer.
In addition to being a star high school athlete, Joe was a boxer and softball player while serving in the military. During his active years he was an avid golfer, amazing bowler, and a bleed blue Michigan Wolverine fan, GO BLUE! He passionately followed his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic pursuits, and on occasion was even ejected for being an “overly-exuberant” spectator. He loved all things history (his favorite show was Ancient Aliens), playing trivia and doing crossword puzzles. Joe was a loyal member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, GA and a regular participant at the Tim D. Lee Senior Center in East Cobb, GA.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park located at 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, GA 30064 from 10AM - 1PM followed by immediate onsite burial. The family will receive friends from 2PM – 5PM at their home.
