Russell R Uhlmann Jr

March 3, 1953 ~ May 23, 2023

It is with the deepest sorrow that his wife and brother announce the passing of Russel R Uhlmann Jr on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the age of 70 from complications associated with interstitial lung disease. Born in Tacoma, Washington on March 3, 1953, Russ led the nomadic childhood of an Air Force ‘brat’, living for short periods in Europe, Washington, DC, Colorado and finally in Huntsville which he called home base. There he graduated from Virgil T Grisham High School. Following his paternal family’s commitment to a military life, he attended The Citadel for 3 years. He finished his college education at Auburn University with a BA in Finance. He began his career in Business Development shortly after leaving Auburn. His quick wit, charm, and intelligence along with a relentless work ethic combined to make him a popular and successful Business Development professional. During his career he led BD efforts for The Gerber Scientific Instrument Company, Xerox, and in recent years, Sagility (formerly HGS USA). As Senior VP of Client Services, he worked with respected and talented Healthcare Service Teams located in India, the Philippines, Jamaica, and the US. In July of 1984, he met his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann, at a business training event. They lived in Smyrna, GA for 8 years and settled in Marietta, GA in 1993. Russ loved nothing more than to share a bottle of a newly discovered wine and a night at a great local restaurant with friends and clients. His favorite vacation destination was British Columbia where he and Mary Ann enjoyed hiking, golf, and hopping ferries through the Puget Sound’s Canadian islands. He was a passionate protector of the urban wildlife and trees that thrive at their home in Marietta and a great dad to the many feline ‘children’ that graced their lives. Russ is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his brother, Julius Uhlmann, his 2 nephews Robert and Rudy Hachtel and their respective wives and families. We all wish we could hear his low reassuring voice again. Sleep well. A Celebration of Life Service is being planned with a date still pending. In lieu of flowers, his wife and brother request that donations be made to the following charitable organizations: Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and Good Mews no-kill cat shelter. Please see the links at the bottom of the page to see more about these memorial contributions and how you can support them.
