Larry York Couey, born November 4, 1942, in Atlanta GA, deceased Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Atlanta, GA, in the comfort of his home.
Larry is survived by his daughter Deborah Baker and her husband, Brad Baker. By his grandchildren Erin and Ty Baker. By his ex-wife Nancy Pegg. By his sister Lynn Evans and her sons - Eddie, Andy, and Gabriel Evans. By his brother Lamar Couey and his wife, Nancy Couey. By his nephews Chris, Ben, and Jason Couey and their families.
Larry now joins his mother and father, Bud and Dot Couey; his sister Lane York; and his brother-in-law Ronnie Evans.
A private gathering of friends and family will be held to celebrate Larry. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to Next Step Ministries. This is a day program for special needs adults that Larry’s granddaughter, Erin, is a participant. Donate at Next Step Ministries, Inc. | Kindful.
Larry had many wonderful and colorful friends. The family was touched by recent words from Larry’s friend, Bob Hurt, and felt it was a great depiction of Larry and wanted to share….
"Larry was a big man with a big heart and a relentless advocate for the underdog. He also could be riotously funny. He was a philosopher, a tireless progressive, and for a long time, one of the main attractions at Manuel’s Tavern. But he never took himself too seriously and would not let me do that either. I will miss him and never forget him.”
