Donald Joseph Grillo, age 80, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at his residence with family by his side following an extended illness.
Donald was born December 31, 1933 in Chicago, to the late Anthony and Irene Drogosz Grillo. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Crane High School there. Donald met and married his beautiful bride (Bernice) of 52 years. They shared a love a polka dancing and started their family in the suburbs of Chicago. They had 4 children (Denise, Glenn, Steve and Theresa), he was very proud of his family. Don always had a passion for the water, from his early days in the navy on a submarine, so to be near the sea, he moved his young family to Florida. His four children produced 7 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Donald was a retired Systems Engineer with Panasonic Industries with many years of service. He was also an avid follower of politics, a strong love and concern for his country. Don spent his later years with Bernice, in Punta Gorda, Florida, fine tuning his culinary skills. He enjoyed movies, both fiction and nonfiction and especially programs regarding traveling, that he could watch and travel vicariously through the small screen.
Survivors include his loving wife; Bernice Cecilia Canterbury Grillo of Acworth, daughter; Denise Anne Mendelson and her husband Tanner of Kennesaw, Sons; Glenn Anthony Grillo and his wife Annastasia of Alpharetta and Steven John Grillo and his wife Alice of Acworth, daughter; Theresa Marie Addington and her husband Jeff of Kennesaw, grandchildren; Corbett Mendelson, Connor Mendelson, Noah Grillo, Gianna Grillo, Vincent Grillo, Lloyd Addington and Jack Addington, sister, Virginia Swieca of Chicago, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Donald's life is scheduled for 10:30 am Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1815 Blackwell Road NE, Marietta, GA 30066. The funeral mass will be available for live broadcast at www.transfiguration.com
