Funeral services and Christian Burial for Ruth Ann Strawder Jones, 73, a resident of Philadelphia, PA will be held at 2pm Saturday, July 20th, 2013 at Powers Ferry United Methodist Church, 245 Powers Ferry Rd, Marietta, GA. Burial will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Cemetery, Marietta. Viewing will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th, 2013 at Powers Ferry United Methodist Church, 245 Powers Ferry Rd, Marietta, GA . Mrs. Jones went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 15th, 2013 at the Tranquility Hospice Care Center, in Marietta. Ruth Ann Jones was born April 14th, 1940 in Greenville, SC, the daughter of the late Rev. Willie H. Strawder and Margaret Shumate Strawder . She was united in marriage to Frederick B. Jones Jr. on November 24th, 1960. From this union were two sons, Frederick B. Jones III and Rodney A. Jones. Mrs. Jones was a proud graduate of Sterling High School of Greenville, SC. Afterwards, graduated from Cheyney State University where she was later employed as Dean of Women's Residence Hall. Following this position, Ruth was promoted as the Registrar. Mrs. Jones was a member of Triumph Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA and she was a dedicated member of the choir. She was known as a generous, loving, and humorous person whose utmost priority was her family. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Frederick B. Jones III (Bezunesh) of Marietta,GA and Rodney A. Jones Sr. (Yolanda) of Suffolk, VA; grandchildren Rodney A. Jones Jr. , Briana Jones, Treasure Jones, Ijegayehu T. Jones, and Belaine E. Jones: and 3 greatgrandchildren; Rodney Jones III, Isis Jones and William Jones; 3 sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Walker, Mrs. Sarah Herbert, and Mrs. Helen Anderson, all of Greenville, SC ; 2 brothers, James Strawder of Tehachapi, CA and David Strawder of Greenville, SC. Her husband Frederick Jones preceded her in death May 5th , 2009. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rahi'ye Ruth Jones. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to: American Cancer Society WinnDixie Hope Lodge 1552 Shoup Ct., Decatur, GA 30033
