Mr. Billy Dee Martin

September 10, 1937 ~ April 27, 2015

Billy Dee Martin, 77, born on September 10, 1937 in Decatur, GA passed away on April 27, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents D.J. and Blanche and brother, Terrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gay, their two sons, Steve (wife Robin) of Atlanta and Scott (wife Teddi) of Paragould, AR, grandchildren Heather, Hannah, Hill, BJ and Arin and Great Grandchildren Harper, Abe, Parker, Lilli and Ethan. BD, as called by most, resided in Powder Springs GA for over 50 Years. Life, however, really began for Bill in the 3rd grade when he met the love of his life, Gay Brock. They went on to graduate from Russell High School in East Point, GA together in 1955. After a short hitch in the US Navy, he went on to work at the Amoco Oil Company for almost 37 years. Early retirement at 55 allowed BD to pursue his true passions of vegetable gardening, classic motorcycles and cars, watching old John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart films, eating fresh vegetables and BBQ from "Johnny's". His quick wit and sarcastic humor will be greatly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Powder Springs located, 4330 North Ave (at Marietta St) Powder Springs, GA 30127 on May 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM and a visitation for the public will begin an hour earlier. Following the service burial will take place at Cheatham Hill Memorial park at 1861 Dallas highway Marietta GA 30064.
