Patricia Ellen McCool, of Kennesaw, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2017, after a long and valiant fight against multiple sclerosis and scleroderma. She was born September 8th, 1970, in Southfield, Michigan, but lived most of her life in the Atlanta area. She attended Daniell Middle School and was a graduate of Sprayberry High School.
The early onset of Patti's illness and its pernicious and continuing assault prevented her from pursuing any active vocation. Despite this, she was a great defender of women's and animal rights, an enthusiastic supporter of the Democratic Party, and an unapologetic liberal feminist. She was blessed with beauty, brains, and a delicious sense of humor. In her last years' her greatest pastime was playing word games with friends she had met on the internet. They, along with everyone who knew her, will miss her greatly.
Patti was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Gardia Major Kalcheff of Amherst, Ohio, her paternal grandparents, Alice Marguerite and Orville McCool of Marietta (formerly of Ferndale, Michigan), and an uncle, Ben Thole, of Elyria, Ohio.
Patti is survived by her parents, Ellen and James McCool of Kennesaw, her brother Michael and his wife, Kendra, along with their children Brandon, Peyton, and Luke, all of Kennesaw. Additionally, she leaves an aunt, Eve Major, and a cousin, Max Remmer, both of Elyria, Ohio.
A memorial will be held on August 11 at 2:00 PM at Southern Cremations & Funerals at Cheatham Hill, 1861 Dallas Highway SW in Marietta, GA 30064, 770-919-7100. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta (MSCA) @ www.mscatl.org.

‘I just learned about her passing today when I saw on Facebook that it was her birthday and thought, “Oh, hey, how’s she doing these days?” We’d been friends for about 10 years. She was a great listener, had a great sense of humor, and was just a kind, good friend. I have a little toddler daughter whom I love more every day and I can’t conceive of how hard it would be to lose her, or to watch her suffer for years under a degenerative disease like MS beforehand. My brain simply won’t go there. I’m so sorry for your loss. If it helps in any way, know that she was one of the people making the world a better place and you can rightly take pride in raising her.’
