  8. It was such a joy to visit with Mrs. Wilson on Tuesdays while I visited the Emory Budd Terrace center. Weekly, she would keep me laughing as I chatted with her about her life growing up in Jamaica, and her children whom she adored. As I read to her, she would laugh and listen intently to the stories. She always lite up when I visited and I would always be so happy to see her and hear her voice. I really will miss her. I pray that the family finds comfort in knowing that she was a blessing to not only them, but to me. Thank you for sharing her with me. Rachel Waithe – volunteer (pics with food is her enjoying some roast breadfruit and saltfish that I brought back from Jamaica for her!)

  9. My memory if Joan was going to visit her at Aunt Blossom’s house. She always had a smile on her face to greet me!

  10. I met Joan in Brooklyn NY. I did not have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out. She always worked hard for Mario Jay and Monique. Without even knowing much about me she took me in and cooked and clothed and gave me shelter. Joan Wilson and her kids opened their doors to me and gave me very warm welcome. I lived with the Wilson family over five years without even a job and they supported me. The world has lost an angel and heaven gate has opened for Joan Wilson. I will never forget her and her entire family.

  11. Sleep in peace Ms. Wilson, it was such a joy to have met you.

  12. My beautiful sister will always be in my heart

  13. My beautiful sister you will always be in my heart

  14. To My loving grandmother.

I remember the days in the summer where my mother used to take me and my brother over to your house. One specific time was when you used to let us play with the hose outside in the grass and flowers, that same day I saw a bee and immediately ran back inside to you in the kitchen. In New York there aren’t many houses with flowers in the yard and yours was the only one I have ever seen. Like those flowers they have roots and gather the nourishment from the soil and you have been the soil for this family for so long. Because of you I have the mother I have today. You will never be forgotten and you will always be loved.

From the child you call used to call “little one”- Raniya Robinson ❤️

  20. My grandmother Joan was kind, generous, compassionate, the best cook ever… I can go on and on about her. I used to love when my dad used to drop me off at her house. I learned either a recipe, life lesson, or who was who on her favorite western shows. She’s one of the first women I looked up too when it came to style and beauty. Her hair and nails were always done! She adored me. Loved me. Helped took care of me. She took me to Jamaica for the first time. All I had to do was make one phone call and her famous oxtail would be ready for me. You were so STRONG! I’ll always love you. I’ll forever miss you

In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you held a special place no one else could ever fill.
If tears could build a stair case and heart ache build a lane we’d walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same but as GOD calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Sadly missed. Sleep on and take your rest. Victor and Deon.

  32. A great mother to one is a great mother to all. Mario, my mentor, always explained to us that life is to be lived and most importantly life is to be shared. Hearing stories of Mario’s mother, Mrs. Joan Wilson, from others makes me realize how important it is to be a good person, look out for others, and how sacrifice is what a person does for the betterment for all friends and otherwise. Mario learned from his mother and he taught us. We will continue to share this wisdom for as long as permitted.

  33. Thank you Ms. Wilson for the fun memories . We love you . Mike and Debra Young.
