Robert Kenneth Hughes

Robert Kenneth Hughes died peacefully in Atlanta, Georgia on December 21, 2017 at the age of 63. His former wife Janice Hughes had been with him each day while he was in the hospital and was by his side when he passed. Robert is survived by his sister Carolyn Hughes Bertram and her husband Bill Bertram, his cousins, Barbara Sheffield Landers and her husband John Brooks Landers, Bernay Sheffield and his wife Betty Zentner Sheffield, Joanne Nanus Foster, Terry Leifeste and Dr. Ronald Leifeste and his wife Connie. He was preceded in death by his mother LaVilla McCord Peterson, his father Joe Kenneth Hughes, his step mother Vivian Witter Hughes, and his step brother Trey Mead. Robert was born December 17, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. He spent his youth in Dallas, Menard and Austin Texas, where he loved hunting and fishing especially with his dad, horseback riding and playing sports. He was proud of his complete football uniform when he was about 6 years old, and at that age, he was already very athletic. and went on to play high school football. He loved people, made friends quickly and as an adult he excelled in any and all endeavors. Robert's real passion in his adult life was cooking, and he was a very talented and accomplished chef. He was a chef at Lakeway Inn at Lakeway, Hudson's on the Bend, and went on to work for Club Corp of America, where he once cooked for President George H Bush at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple. Robert then went to Georgia, where he remained in the food industry cutting meat for Fresh Market Grocery Stores. Robert gave 100% to whatever he was doing, whether it was cooking or doing lawns, which he did on his days off with his dear friend and partner, John Porter. Robert will be remembered for his honesty, and dedication to doing a job correctly, and for his kindness to others. He enthusiastically shared his close relationship with Christ with family and friends. His ashes will be scattered in Brady Texas where his father, step mother, step brother and beloved Aunt Winnie and Uncle L.B. rest.
