Delano Key

August 12, 1950 ~ November 22, 2023

Delano Earl Key Sr. was born in 1950 to Jim and Earline Key in Nashville, Tennessee. Later the family relocated to Rochester, New York. Upon graduation from Edison Technical High School, Delano worked at General Motors for many years. Delano was a union man his entire adult life.Later in life, Delano relocated to Atlanta, GA. where he met and married the love of his life, Melrenee Key, in 2009. Together they formed a blended family complete with three sons and two daughters. While in Atlanta, Delano joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers and National Electrical Contractors Association in 2008. Delano was an electrician and started as a Journeyman Wireman in 2008, after receiving his apprenticeship certificate. After his retirement, he volunteered with Browns Mill Golf Course and loved every minute.Delano loved life and made sure to live it to the fullest through traveling throughout the U.S. including Hawaii (every year) as well as Jamacia, Mexico, and Canada with Melrenee. Delano spent many years playing golf which was another love of his life. Anyone who knew him, knew he had a passion for golf. He had a team of men who he played with regularly (Harold, Dr. Aelleyne, Charles, Kent, Randy). He golfed in many tournaments with his nephew Wallace and other team members. He spent many years on the golf course with his brother Roger. He spent time with family and making memories.Delano had a relationship with God and found comfort in daily meditation and reading. He was a man of honesty and integrity and mentored many young people. His life deeply impacted the lives of everyone he met.Delano is preceded in death by his father Jim Key, mother Earline Key, brother James Bailey Key, sister Ruby Jean Coley, and nephew Eric Sean Key. He leaves to cherish his memory, a wife Melrenee Key, his children Calvin (Freda) Rumph, Dianne Key, Delano (Shamyra) Key Jr., two stepchildren Melvin (Kim)Teague Jr., and Melanie (F.D. III) Ramsey. Two sisters Merry Green, Bambi House, one brother Roger (Jennifer) Key. Fourteen (14) grandchildren, Seven (7) Great Grandchildren, A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and other relatives and friends.

  7. Our friendship was sparked by the love of golf, and carried on for 15 years. We won many tournaments and experienced many losses along the way. We were complete opposites, yet alike at the same time. I’ll always be thankful for our time spent together. I’d also like to share my condolences with the family. I know he’ll always be remembered by his kind heart.
