Beulah Lucille Kennedy Northern Born Beulah Lucille Kennedy on April 11, 1930, in Godfrey County, Illinois – daughter to Harriett (Kennedy) Edwards and Joseph Cannon. Beulah was raised by her grandparents, Edith (Hyndman) Kennedy and Frank Kennedy. At a very early age, she became a member of New Bethel A.M.E Church at Rocky Fork and her remains will be interred at the family cemetery there. This church was officially founded during the Civil War by Andrew Jackson Hyndman and Erasmus Green, members of the Colored Infantry, both being ancestors of Beulah. This little church has a rich history, celebrating over 160 years. It was one of the stations on the Underground Railroad in the greater Alton, Illinois area. It was a pathway to freedom that sheltered fugitive slaves on their journey to freedom. In 1946, Beulah married Robert E. Northern, who preceded her in death on October 4, 2018. From their union, six children were born. In 1958, she relocated to Tucson, Arizona until 1961. While living in Tucson, she attended St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she was first introduced to Catholicism. Upon her move to St. Louis in 1961, she continued practicing as a Catholic and served as a volunteer in many of the church (St. Paul-Ascension) ministries, most notably to the homeless. Upon her move to Atlanta in 2005, she faithfully attended mass at St. John the Evangelist, Hapeville, and Most Blessed Sacrament, Atlanta until ill health prevented her.In 1961, she was employed at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where she earned her certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse where she retired after 25 years. Beulah was preceded in death by her daughter, Candice Marie (Northern) Dyson. She leaves to cherish her memory and a loving family legacy: her daughters, Paula A. Norman, Collette Harvey, Barbara Northern, Marshette Northern, and her only son, Robert D.
