Former Cobb County Police motorman Robert M. Crawley, Sr. (82) of Marietta, died peacefully at Tranquility Hospice on March 16, 2018 after an extended illness. He retired in 1998 after a 20-year career as a motorcycle patrolman.
Officer Crawley was born on January 27, 1936 in Spalding County, Georgia to Josephine Eller and Adcus Lee Crawley, Sr. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 16 and was stationed at Ft. Wadsworth on Staten Island, NY where he married Joan Margaret McQuade of Staten Island who survives him.
Mr. Crawley subsequently served in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20-years of service in the Georgia Air National Guard.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Quick of Jonesboro, GA, 3 children; Robert M. Crawley, Jr., Lisa Ann Gabel and Christine Louise Poore, all of Marietta. Also surviving him are 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Judge Adcus Lee Crawley, Jr. of Cobb County.
Visitation will be held at Southern Cremations & Funerals at Cheatham Hill from 1-2pm on Saturday, March 24, 2018. A memorial and celebration of his life will follow immediately.
