Katherine Ann Pierce

April 18, 1950 ~ January 4, 2024

Katherine Ann Pierce, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, in Decatur, Georgia, at the age of 73. Born on April 18, 1950, in Lafayette, Louisiana, Kate attended Mt. Carmel High School and graduated from Cathedral-Carmel High School in 1968. She also attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, graduating in 1972 with a BA degree. Kate taught social studies and speech in Lafayette Parish public schools for a few years. She then relocated to Houston where she worked in the geophysical department at Amoco Corporation. She later transferred with the company to New Orleans and continued working for BP following the corporate merger. Kate made one more career transition a few years later, going to work as a hotel and spa manager for the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans and Orlando. Desiring to be closer to family after retirement, she moved to Dunwoody, Georgia, where she was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. Outside of her professional pursuits, Kate found immense joy as a member of the Krewe of Muses. She loved Mardi Gras and would return to New Orleans each year to ride in the Muses parade with her beautiful glitter shoes in tow. Kate also enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, genealogy, and shopping. She spent countless Saturday mornings playing with her great nephews, Daniel, Henry, and Joe. She would never turn down a cup of black coffee. Kate was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Pierce and Nellie Hebert Pierce, and her brother, Fred Thomas Pierce (“Buddy”). She is survived by her siblings, Marlene Pierce Slavich (Robert), Mark Leslie Pierce (Cristopher Williams), and James Edward Pierce. She will also be missed by her nieces, Leslie Slavich (Ben Morgan), Lauren Slavich (Martin Kendrick), Jennifer Comeaux (Coby), and Jessica Pierce, and her great nephews Daniel Morgan, Henry Morgan, Joseph Morgan, Cohen Comeaux, and Dakota Pierce, and her great niece Maren Kendrick. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise of Decatur and Agape Hospice for their care and consideration of their sister and aunt. A celebration of Kate's life will be held in the near future. Details will be added here when available. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or another charity of your choice, in honor of Kate.
