Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Carla Leigh Vogel Loner was born October 9, 1965 at Dekalb General Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, to parents Martha Jane Mulkey Vogel and Leonard James Vogel. The youngest of six children in the family, Carla was a free spirit that didn’t let obstacles stand in her way.
After school, she apprenticed as Sous Chef for the Marriott Hotel chain. She used that experience to land her a job at the Marriott in Hawaii.
She loved to cook and always brought the deviled eggs to family gatherings. Her passion always brought her back to food and feeding people. She went from Sous Chef to Ice Cream Truck driver to various jobs, eventually ending up becoming the Seafood Manager at Kroger. She loved helping her customers and was a friend to all. Many times, she would tell stories of the customers she had helped and the kind gestures they would bestow upon her.
Her generous heart was sometimes too kind for her own good, but she always tried to find the best in people.
Carla’s spirit left her physical body on March 29, 2018, her gentle nature and love will be remembered by all who were part of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, older sister Sharon Lynn Vogel Sweet and husband Carl.
She is survived by her sister, Cynthia Champion: three brothers, Robert Champion, Leonard Vogel and John Vogel; sisters in law, Kimberly Vogel and Colleen Vogel; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews from Alabama to Ohio.

“Aunt Carla” was one of the most authentic women I have ever known. She always, always, had a smile for everyone she met. I remember when Carrie and Joey’s kids were small they were always so happy when “Aunt Carla” was coming to stay with them when their mom and dad had to out or away on a business trip. Carla, was funny, kind and generous. I will miss seeing her at Bunco and at Kroger. Her loss is immense. Rest in heavenly peace “Aunt Carla” xoxoxo Barbara and Tim Geary
I worked with Carla , she made fantastic burritos and brought them to me a 6 am . She really was a sweet person . Gone too soon
I have known Carla since she worked with my sister at Wendy’s in the early 80’s. We worked together many years for Airborne Express. She was always laughing and trying to get everybody else to laugh with her. We took a day trip to Ellijay just so she could get some sourwood honey. Her kindness and generosity run deep and wide as she was always ready to help, do, or give; whatever was needed at the time, and to do it with a smile. When we spoke, she would call me “girly-girl” and I would always call her “hunny bunny”. I am going to miss her immensely.
