Marietta Southern Funerals & Cremations
Darlene Mildred Grochowski, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and talented artist, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, in Marietta, Georgia, at the age of 77. Born on November 23, 1946, in Mapleton, Iowa, to John and Anna Schoenherr, Darlene touched the lives of many with her creativity, warmth, and unwavering strength.
Darlene was a gifted artist, known for her beautiful murals, paintings, and crafts, which she passionately shared with others at craft fairs. Her creative talents brought joy to all who admired her work.
In her 50-year marriage to Harry Grochowski, who preceded her in death, Darlene exemplified dedication and devotion. Together, they created a legacy of love and family.
Darlene was the proud mother of three daughters, Chris Galpin (Rob Galpin), Heather Cramer, and Shawne Townsley (Ryan Townsley), who meant everything to her. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, finding immense joy in the presence of her four grandchildren, Riley Galpin, Elizabeth Galpin, Maya Cramer, and Connor Cramer, as well as her great-grandchild, Dakota McGarity.
Her commitment to her family extended beyond her immediate family. Darlene was a supportive sister to Jerry Schoenherr, Joan Roberts, and Marcella Seitz, while being preceded in death by her siblings Mildred Vogelzang, John F. Schoenherr, and Harold Schoenherr.
Despite her battle with cancer since 2015, Darlene approached life with courage and resilience, defying the odds with bravery and grace. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Darlene leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and bravery. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation for Darlene will be held at 10:30 AM at the Columbarium at Southern Cremations and Funerals in Marietta, Georgia, with the Funeral Service and burial service to immediately follow at the same location. We invite you to join us as we gather to commemorate and cherish the beautiful memories shared with Darlene.

love and prayers to all of you, I will miss Darlene so much, we became good friends over my time sitting with her, we had alot of laughs, watching the braves together, she taught me more about the game and tennis, I would come in the morning and would often start singing to get her going and she would say , oh no she is singing again, the when she moved to Sterling she said she missed me and my singing, lol, she loved to plant flowers, helped her alot of times with that, I’ve been singing a song all week for her, I’ll Be Gone To Be With Jesus Come Spring, it speaks of roses in her garden, I know she is planting and potting her flowers in a better land and is so happy, love you always Darlene and ill meet you by the river some day Love Sandy
