Khay Vongnakhone

August 5, 1953 ~ April 11, 2024

Khay Vongnakhone was born on August 5, 1953, to the union of Hao and Khamnang Vongnakhone in the country of Laos. He departed this life peacefully at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on April 11, 2024. Khay was raised in a farming village where he worked on his family tobacco and rice farms, and enjoyed caring for the buffalos. During the Laotian Civil War, Khay bravely served as a soldier fighting against communism. Khay was united in marriage to Khampong in 1974 and out of this union four children were born: Somkhith, Noumchith, Samlith, and Samlong. In an attempt to live a better life, he and his pregnant wife, Khampong and young son, Somkhith successfully fled across the Mekong River on a small boat from Laos to a refuge camp in Ubon, Thailand. At the refugee camp, two children were born, Noumchith and Samlith. After a few years at the camp, their prayers were answered and received a sponsorship by a Lutheran church for Khay and the family to immigrate to the United States of America in 1980. In 1981, Khay and his family settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota where their fourth child, Samlong was born. After living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Khay moved his family to Alexandria, Virginia where he was employed at Larchmont Village Apartments as a maintenance technician. This job was Khay’s dream job as he loved working with his hands and enjoying nature. Khay retired in 2016, and through all of his life challenges to take care and provide for his family, his efforts finally paid off as he was able to purchase his first home with his wife in Fairburn, Georgia. The relocation to Fairburn, Georgia was Khay’s pride and joy, as the immediate family was once again all reunited not only in the same state, but literally doors from each other. Throughout his life, Khay placed great emphasis on “family”, and took great pride in always being the lead master for every family bar-b-que, and get together. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and friends, spending precious times and spoiling his grandchildren, and definitely being the LIFE of any party! Khay leaves to cherish his memories: Devoted wife, Khampong Vongnakhone; Children: Somkhith; Noumchith (Chapal Walker); Samlith Stanley (Cameron); and Samlong; Grandchildren: Olivia Noy; Wynter Mi; Khay Edward; and Brooklen Walker all of Fairburn, Georgia, along with a host of loving relatives and friends.
