Calvin Mathis

Calvin "Map" Mathis was born on 10/28/1948 to S.C. and Annie Ruth Mathis in Albany, GA. He lived with his parents and 14 siblings until he joined the Job Corp. While at Job Corp, he traveled the United States. He developed work and leisure skills. Map earned his diploma and made Atlanta his permanent home. In Atlanta, he married Susan Ann Caldwell in 1970. They had two children, Karen Yolanda Mathis and Sean Caldwell Mathis. He began working for Progress Lightening as a fork-lifter. Later Years Calvin Mathis worked 27 years for Progress Lightening, where he retired. During retirement, he enjoyed sharing time with his grandson, friends, and family. He also loved sports, telling stories of growing up in Albany, GA, and giving historical pop quizzes. He rarely forgot a name, a face, or a birthday. He was generous, loving, protective, and committed to living life on his own terms. Farewell Calvin Mathis departed on July 28, 2018 at Kennestone Hospital. He is joined by his parents S.C. and Annie Ruth Mathis and siblings Henry Mathis, Jeanette Soloman, David Mathis, and sisters. He leaves behind his wife Susan C. Mathis, his children Karen Finn ,Sean Mathis, and one grandson, Eron Kaleb Finn. He is also survived by five brothers, Billy Mathis (Christine) of Lithonia, Ga, Marvin Mathis Esq, (Frances) of Los Angeles, CA, Tommy Mathis of Los Angeles, CA, Jimmy Mathis of Albany, GA, and Carl Mathis (Theresa) of San Antonio, TX; three sisters: Margaret Mathis-Murphy and Annette Mathis of Albany, GA, Marie Moss (Ernest) of Glen Burnie, MD; a special aunt, Annie Ruth Mathis of Albany, GA, and his sister in law Elma Brooks of Atlanta, GA. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

  1. I’m sure gonna miss talking to you every other day about old times and the people we grew up with. We grew up together and did a lot of things together as teens, we traveled the world.
