Andrea Vandamme

September 15, 1932 ~ July 2, 2024

Andrea Vandamme (1932-2024) Andrea Vandamme, 91, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024. She was born on September 15, 1932, in Luingne, Belgium. Andrea was 7 years old when Germany invaded Belgium and experienced firsthand what it means to live in occupied territory. She married Maurice Vandamme in 1951 and was a factory worker and seamstress until she had her daughter, Corinne, in 1965. The family emigrated to Tampa, Florida in 1967, near Andrea’s sister, Maria Tanner, with the hope of a more prosperous life in a country where they did not speak the language. As a stay-at-home mom and housewife, Andrea learned English by watching TV with a dictionary in her lap and her young daughter’s help once she started school. Andrea and Maurice moved to Georgia in 1999 to be close to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting and never missed her soap operas. Later in life, she enjoyed watching classic TV shows and movies and loved visits from her grand-dog, Ranger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Vandamme, who passed away in 2000, and her sister Eliane Dieu (Coppejans) who passed away in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Corinne Vandamme Bontrager, son-in-law, Jerry Bontrager (both of Mableton, Georgia), grandson, Logan Bontrager (Mauldin, South Carolina), sister, Maria Tanner (Tampa, Florida), brother-in-law, Leon Dieu (Herseaux, Belgium), as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Belgium and France. A memorial service will be held 5-7 pm on July 8, 2024, at Southern Cremations & Funerals – Columbarium, 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia.
