Lynn Marie Fox-Lyon

August 2, 1952 ~ July 9, 2024

Lynn Marie Fox-Lyon of Acworth, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2024, at The Grande Sterling Estates memory care unit on Dallas Highway in Marietta, GA ending her long battle with Alzheimer’s. She passed away with her loving husband of 44 years at her side along with her dedicated Hospice care nurse! She leaves behind her husband, James W. Lyon; two adult children, Todd L. Lyon and Jamie Lynn Gjerulff; along with four grandchildren, ages 4-9 (3 girls and 1 boy). Lynn was born in Chicago, IL on the 2nd of August in 1952. As the oldest of seven children, she spent much of her growing up years helping her mother with the care of her younger siblings. Her family settled in Central, IL, where she attended and graduated from Rantoul High School in 1970. Anxious to spread her wings and explore the world, she would first enroll in Patricia Stevens Career College in Oak Park, IL before applying for and being accepted as a flight attendant with Braniff International Airways. It was at Braniff that she found her passion in life and making many lifelong friends. It was there also that she met and fell in love with her husband. After Braniff went through bankruptcy in 1982, she never gave up hope returning to the skies. She did return to flying when Braniff reorganized in 1984 but was faced with many scheduling hurdles and the birth of a second child, her daughter -- She left her career as a flight attendant and devoted her life to her family. It was the love of her children and finely honed social skills that led her to teaching catechism classes at church, and then becoming a substitute nurse with the Cobb County School System. A funeral mass will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 6301 Cedarcrest Rd., Acworth, GA 30101, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 18. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Alzheimer’s Research.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Lynn was a very kind person that was my oldest and dearest friend. Although we lived far apart we always kept in touch. The memories are many and I will always treasure them. Lynn loved her dear Jim and her children fiercely and I know they will miss her. She is in Gods hands now and will keep an eye on us all now. I love you Lynn and will miss you every day for the rest of my life.

  2. I worked for Braniff and was tranfered to Kansas City in 1974. The base was relativly small so it waswn’t long before I met Lynn and began a life long friendship. She will be missed.

    Frank Gravina

  3. I was close childhood friends with Lynn’s son, Todd. We shared many laughs and conversations about life and growing up. She and Jim were always generous with their time and hospitality (and allowed me to persistently eat them out of house and home as a teenage guest). Our deepest condolences to Jim, Todd, Jamie-Lynn and the entire Fox-Lyon family.- Chris Fagan and family
