Sharon Kay Nichols
Sharon Kay Nichols passed away peacefully on the morning of August 15, 2024, at the age of 65 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Dale Nichols Sr. and Lela Sailor Foresman. She is survived by her sister, Sallie Luke, brothers, Billy Nichols Jr. and Timothy Nichols, many beloved nieces and nephews, and her dog Maxine.
Sharon was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended Riverdale High School in River Ridge, Louisiana but graduated from Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania after the family moved to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. She received an associate’s degree from Boyce Community College in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Upon receiving her degree, Sharon went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh prior to moving to Billings, Montana. After leaving Montana, Sharon found her way to Atlanta, Georgia and eventually settled in Canton, Georgia. It was there that she found a way to combine her love for animals and her career and went to work for Cherokee County Animal Control. Her desire to continue to be of service to others led her to transition from her role at Animal Control and become a Deputy Marshall with Cherokee County. After an injury prevented her from continuing to be on the road, she went on to work at the Cherokee County 911 Call Center where she could continue to serve. Upon being placed on disability from the County, Sharon continued to try and serve others as best she could. Having come from a family of veterans, she took a special interest in serving the veteran community.
There will be a graveside memorial service for Sharon on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, 1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064. All who knew or served with her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Cherokee County Humane Society at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=727RUDW35RMRU or the Gary Sinise Foundation for veterans and first responders at https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/donate.
