Mr. Larry William McNew

February 11, 1940 ~ September 1, 2024

Larry William McNew 1940-2024 Larry William McNew passed away in his home going about his day as usual. Larry was born on February 11,1940 in Wichita, Kansas to Albert and Hazel (Ashworth) McNew. His family moved to Orange County, California where he formed lifelong friendships. Larry joined the United States Army where he was integral in deciphering, coding, and tactical planning for military operations. He was stationed in London for five years where he enjoyed traveling and visiting historical sites. When he returned to Garden Grove, Larry met and married Mary (Koudelka) McNew after their mothers, who worked in a church nursery together, arranged a date for them to meet. Surrounded by Mary’s large family, they welcomed their son, Jason, in 1976. Larry used his military training and served Western and Delta Airlines for 32 years. In 1986 Larry and his family moved to Georgia. After his retirement and the death of Mary, Larry (also known as Pappy) moved to Savannah, Georgia to live closer to his son and grandchildren where he would pop in on the many basketball and volleyball games of his granddaughters between traveling. Larry loved to go. He traveled the world and then some, never turning down a new adventure. He went on excursions with Jason to show and teach history first hand and to add experience to interest. He traveled with his best friend since elementary school until one of them couldn’t. He was in Iceland a week before he passed away. Larry lived a full life with many stories and adventures to share. He was quiet and kind. It is said that in the last seven seconds of your life your brain replays all of your best memories. With all of his adventures, we can only imagine what a show it was! Our prayer is that Jesus met Larry right where he was and that Larry had a beautiful homecoming. Larry is survived by his son Jason McNew (Lisa Ashley-McNew), his three beautiful granddaughters, Camilla Harper, Chloe, and Greer, his brother, his many beloved nieces and nephews, and his friends who enjoyed visiting and traveling with him. And Carlos- his suit of armor. In lieu of flowers, Larry asked that donations be made to a travel fund for his grandchildren and that you go on an adventure that you have been putting off. We never know when the opportunity will no longer be there. https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/983Y6vW34a https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/123594478587703022
