Carol Jean Higgins

September 26, 1940 ~ November 13, 2024

Carol Jean Higgins was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully to be with our Lord on November 13, 2024, after an extended and courageous battle with cancer. She was born to Arnold E. Hanson and Coleta M. Rodgers Hanson on September 26, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas. She attended local grade school and Hayden High School in Topeka, Kansas and the Sisters of Charity School of Nursing in Leavenworth and Kansas City, Kansas where she earned a registered nursing degree. She married Thomas C. Higgins in 1962 in Topeka, Kansas. Carol is survived by her husband Tom, her four children, Brian Higgins (and wife Kim) of Kennesaw, Georgia, Laura Faulkner (and husband Shawn) of Leavenworth, Kansas, Eileen Higgins of Smyrna, Georgia and Kevin Higgins (and wife Heather) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A brother, John Hanson and his wife Melinda of Topeka, Kansas and sisters-in-law, Betty Hanson of Murray, Kentucky and Nancy Burton of Potomac, Maryland and multiple nieces and nephews also survive. Carol was an R.N. and worked for Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia for more than 25 years, always in the maternity areas including labor & delivery, postpartum and antepartum. She was a devoted nurse who enjoyed caring for others and a wonderful and irreplaceable mother and friend. She will be closely held in our hearts until we can be together with her again in Heaven. A family service will be held on November 19, 2024, at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta, GA.

  1. Robert and Jennifer Ollis says:

This wonderful woman produced one of the best friends I ever had, Kevin. He has been my friend, confidant and often my compass.

  2. I was so sad to hear about Carol’s death. Our mothers were roommates in the hospital when we were born. Carol and I were two days apart!
We basically grew up together and went through high school and nurses training together, as well.
    Lots of memories!
