J.T Brooks slipped away on October 30,2018 at the age of 95.He was the oldest of six children born to Trevor and Estylee (Gilliland)Brooks on February 4,1923 in Cumming, Georgia.
He went to Smyrna High School and Joined the Navy in 1944 serving 2 years during World War II. He married Ellene (Daniel) Brooks on February 19,1949 and they made their home in Marietta. Georgia raising three children.
He worked for Lockheed Aircraft Co. for 32 years and retiring in 1985.He worked as a tank sealer on airplanes, but his expertise went beyond that. He could fix or rebuild anything. He built their first home himself and remolded his second one. Unlike most people he never Had a mortgage but paid for his homes as be built them.
JT was a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church and worked there as an usher; greeting visitors and manned the desk at the CRC for many years. His church was an anchor in his life.
He enjoyed traveling around the country but could hardly wait to get back home to his garden.
He grew the best tomatoes and supplied friends and family when the crop was good.
He is survived by his wife, Ellene D. Brooks, and their three children and their spouses: Nancy Platten (Hugh). Johnny Brooks (Lora) and Beaver Brooks(Kathy); his brother, Hulett Brooks; his sister, Jane B. Daniel;10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3,2018 at 11:00 am at the Eastside Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Eastside Baptist Church or Much Ministries which provides economic aid to Haiti which was founded by Beaver Brooks.
