Jimmie Lou Dixon, affectionately known as “Jimmie Lou,” was born on October 9th, 1953, to Doris Mae Hines and Dooley Lancaster in the small town of Chambers, Alabama. She was raised in Fairburn, Georgia. She was the eldest of six siblings: James Dixon, Edward Hines, Deborah Hines, Eddie Hines, and Kimerla Colbert. Jimmie Lou accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age at St. John A.M.E Church in Fairburn, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and secretary. She helped build what is now the current St. John, alongside former Pastor Isaiah Waddy. She was a loving and devoted mother of two, Tavares (Natasha) Dixon and Cortney Dixon. She was the cherished grandmother of six, great-grandmother of two, and host of nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
She attended Metropolitan College and Clayton State University; where she went on to become a Registered Nurse/Charged Nurse. She successfully retired after 35+ years at Grady Memorial Hospital. Her memory will be forever cherished, her smile and spirit forever bright, she will be deeply missed by everyone she has touched. Her legacy will live on through her family.
