Berend Edward Gibbs – April 8, 1941 – November 5, 2018
Berend “Ed” Edward Gibbs passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 5, 2018 in Acworth Ga. He was 77 years old.
Ed was born in Grand Rapids Michigan to the late William and Wilmetje Gibbs.
After his service in the United States Navy he became a master machinist; working for Slagboom Tool and Die in Grand Rapids, Michigan, until relocating to Georgia where he retired from ITW Polymers Sealants.
Ed enjoyed working on cars and was a huge fan of auto racing. He had an opportunity to work with a NASCAR team which allowed him to travel to many races and participate in a sport that he was so passionate about. He was also a member of the American Legion. Most of all, Ed loved spending time with family and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his father William Gibbs, mother Wilmetje Ritzma, brother Riley Ace Gibbs (Barbara), son in law David Reterstorf, and grandson Justin Arp.
Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lucille Gibbs. Daughter and bonus daughters, Angela Reterstorf, Cynthia (Arvid) Kalinen, Gwendolyn Arp (Todd), Renee (Scot) Fairbairn, and son and bonus son Mark Gibbs and Ronald Cnossen; his brother Louis Richard (Elaine) Gibbs; his sister Jan Wiggers Abbott; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Interring will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Georgia National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion, Main Street Acworth, GA.

Luci and family, you have such wonderful loving memories that you can always remember and smile. Ed was such a loving family man. My prayers for peace and comfort and many blessings for your family. I have such happy memories Luci of those trips to the races and visits to your home. Ed was a special man. God bless you all! Hugs to you Luci!
