Barbara Virginia Tift-Brown

November 1, 1931 ~ February 3, 2019

Barbara Virginia Eversley was born on November 1, 1931 to the late Edith Faith Viola Powell in Warwick, Bermuda and was the stepdaughter of, the late Carlyle Eversley. She peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday morning, February 3, 2019. Responsibility came early to Barbara, being the eldest of 11 siblings, which was not an easy task. Barbara received her education at the Central School in Bermuda, but eventually had to choose between caring for younger siblings and getting an education. While growing up on the island of Bermuda, Barbara became an avid swimmer, even swimming the wakes of the cruise ships as they entered the Bermuda port with her brothers. In 1954, Barbara immigrated to the United States in search of better opportunities, making her home in Stamford, Connecticut. In 1957, Barbara met and fell in love with John Leon Tift. They moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut where they made a loving home, full of music, singing and laughter for their 3 children. Barbara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Walters Memorial AME Zion Church, Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she served as a faithful and active member of the W.H. & O. M. Missionary Society for 35 years. Pursuing her love of music, Barbara joined the Serendipity Choral of Fairfield, Connecticut, where she enjoyed traveling, singing and performing at many events. Anyone who knew Barbara, also knew she had a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Always looking for new opportunities, Barbara worked and networked as a representative of Stanley, Amway, and Omni, just to name a few of her many business ventures. Barbara and John were a fashionable and sociable couple who had a wide circle of friends. Barbara was a member of the National Council of Negro Women, NAACP, and the Bermuda Benevolent of New York. After 25 years of service, Barbara retired from Bryant Electric of Bridgeport, Ct. In 1999, Barbara and John sold their home and moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to live out the remainder of their lives. There they made precious memories with their grandchildren and children. Barbara and John became active members of Joseph B. Bethea United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, where they attended bible study and Barbara sang in the choir. Barbara and John were married for 45 years until his death. Barbara later married John H. Brown of Virginia, where he presently resides with his family. Barbara Tift-Brown is proceeded in death by her husband John L. Tift; mother, Edith Faith Viola Eversley, stepfather, Carlyle Eversley and brother Sinclair Eversley, and sister-in-law Margret Tift. She leaves to celebrate her memory, daughters, Adele (Anthony) Pollard, Sandra Lynn Tift, Tonya (Hershel) Roberts; sisters Joan Jones and Patricia Edwards of Myrtle Beach, SC, Shirley Simons and Elizabeth Ann Hall of Bermuda, Judy Daniels of New Jersey, Linda (Lonnie) Colson of Victorville, Ca., brothers Eugene Eversley of Bermuda, and Brian “Bill” Eversley and Gregory Eversley of New Jersey, a precious “adopted daughter” and friend Donna Hall of Mableton, Ga. three sister-in-law’s, Florence Gibbons, Henrietta Hawkins and Mae Lois Lundy and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends. I thought of John today and wanted to see if I can find his notice but found hers instead. She was a very nice person and John use to call me his white son. Lol. Loved John!!! I was only 18 when I met him and he helped me when I needed any help on Fords. I remember him driving his red Mercury Cougar that he loved!! Nice car! I can share so many memories. God bless.
