Betty Ulrich Weiland, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2019, in Marietta, GA. Betty was born on April 17, 1924, in Cincinnati, OH, to Arthur J. and Ida (Huber) Ulrich and was raised in Columbus, OH. Betty graduated from Rosary High School in 1942. After high school, she worked and kept the home fires burning for her high school sweetheart, Jim, to return from World War II. Betty and Jim married on June 7, 1947, and they were married for 54 wonderful years.
A devoted wife and mother, she contributed 32 years to the glorious profession of raising five children to adulthood and running family households in New Orleans, LA, Cranford, NJ, Mantua, NJ and Marietta, GA. She then worked for Oglethorpe University in Atlanta as the Executive Assistant to the President from 1984 to 1992 before retiring to Franklin, NC with her husband Jim, and then relocating back to Marietta, GA.
Betty enjoyed playing tennis, golf and walking. Also, Betty was an active volunteer at the school library, swim team, high school band and helped start up the Gloucester County Library System (NJ) while raising her children. In her retirement years she volunteered at Angel Hospital and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Franklin, NC.
Betty was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her husband, Charles James (Jim) Weiland, her sisters, Mary Jane (Ulrich) Reutinger and Ida Mae (Ulrich) Weisgerber. Betty is survived by her children, Beth (Larry) Benko, Jim (Becky) Weiland, Randy (Kathy) Weiland, Megan (John) Schreck, and Pete (Jeanne) Weiland, grandchildren, Katie Guerra, Laura Benko, Andrew and Chris Weiland, Paul and Jessica Weiland, Kathryn and Matthew Schreck, Patrick, Jacqueline, Madeline, Paul, and Luke Weiland, 6 great-grandchildren, brother, Arthur N. Ulrich, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Judy (Weiland) Rotolo, and numerous nieces and nephews
A Mass of Resurrection will take place on Monday, February 25, 11am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30062. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org and The Hope Center, www.supporthopecenter.com.
