Laurie Susan (Flash) McLeod, age 65, of Marietta, GA passed away on Feb. 18th, 2019. Laurie was born in New Brunswick, NJ on Jan. 14th 1954 to Dorothy (Dottie) and Lorn (Big Mac) McLeod. The family re-located to West Palm Beach, Fl. in 1955.
Laurie graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1972. She also attended Palm Beach Junior College and University of South Alabama for a short time. Laurie held various positions in the restaurant industry before deciding to return to school. Laurie returned to college in 1988, attending Brenau University in Gainesville, GA. In 1990 she earned her BS degree in Education. This enabled Laurie to fulfill a lifelong dream of teaching in the field of Special Education. Laurie worked for the Paulding County Board of Education for 15 years. – she specialized in teaching behavior and learning disabled high school students.
Laurie was the ultimate baseball fan and after permanently moving to the Atlanta area in 1974 she became a huge Atlanta Braves fan. She was so excited about being able to see Hank Aaron, Dale Murphy and Chipper Jones play. Her current favorite was Ender Inciarte. She also played softball for many years and loved playing catcher.
Laurie had a lifelong love of the ocean and beach. She loved collecting shells, sand dollars and sea beans and gave them as gifts to people she loved.
Laurie was born with the gift of gab and a keen interest in people. She loved listening to other people’s stories and genuinely cared about what was happening in their lives. She was also well-known for never forgetting anyone’s birthdate. In addition she was the family historian.
Laurie was survived by her partner of 32 years Susan Alexander, her brother Thomas McLeod (Judith), niece Laurel McLeod Thompson (Kevin) and great-nephew Aiwyn, nephew Shaun McLeod (Maegan), great-nieces Savannah, Avery and Eleanor. Her Marietta family includes Joyce Schulman, Mark Robertson and Bobbie McClure. In lieu of flowers please send any charitable donations to the American Kidney Foundation.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, Feb. 23rd at Southern Cremations and Funeral Home, 1861 Dallas Hwy. Marietta, Ga.
