Lucille Beatrice Felder

July 25, 1927 ~ April 21, 2025

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Rev. Dr. Lucille Beatrice Felder, affectionately known as Grandma Felder, who departed this life on April 22, 2025. Grandma entered this world as Lucille Mason on July 25, 1927, to William and Rose Mason. Grandma Felder was a pioneer preacher and teacher who was among the first female reverends in New York City. Boldly proclaiming truth and purpose from Harlem to Haiti, Grandma delivered hundreds of sermons—her most memorable being Jesus' Seven Last Words. Whether through her ministry at Rikers Island, Bellevue Hospital, or dedicating time to underserved communities, Grandma Felder consistently offered hope to those in need. In the 1970s, when many women, particularly Black women, were confined to roles as secretaries or assistants, Grandma Felder stood tall as Senior Administrator with the New York City Department of Social Services, where she led a staff of nearly 250. She was responsible for approving and distributing vouchers for food, housing, and healthcare, directly supporting families in crisis across the city. She carried that authority with compassion and grace, always ensuring recipients were treated with dignity, respect, and love. Dr. Felder’s seven most memorable traits included being overly prepared, showing up 2 hours early to all events, never making excuses, detailing all tasks, fiercely protective of family (especially her 5 grands), a prayer warrior’s warrior, and most importantly, serving the Most High. Grandma Felder's commitment to excellence and love for family were unmatched. Whether spearheading summer vacations for the grandchildren, preparing unforgettable holiday feasts, or sponsoring Christian education, her love was a daily gift, consistently expressed through her actions. A proud and faithful member of Soul Saving Station Church in Harlem, Grandma Felder was also the heart of her extended family. Grandma embraced her grandchildren’s many cousins as her own, leaving a legacy of generosity and ministry. Grandma was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Felder, sons Edward and Thomas Felder, granddaughter Evelyn Garcia, and great-granddaughter Ebony Garcia. Grandma Felder is survived by her beloved and devoted daughter-in-law, Mary Felder, and her grandchildren: Lynnette Barnard, Edward Felder Jr., Denair Puller (Timothy), and Thomas Felder (Melody). Great grandchildren, Lynnell, Felicia (Harold), Ryan, Edward III, Faith Lauren, Ethan, Gabriel (Deserae), Antoinette, Denika, Shon (LaQuisha), Carrington, Alexandra, and Adrianna. Great great-grandchildren, Marlon, Erin, Lynnese, Kameron, De'Amor, Gabriel, Arionn, Isaac, Josiah, and Marilyn. Grandma's legacy continues through a host of great and great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Grandma Felder fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith. Her labor was not in vain. Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of thy Lord.
