Karla Fermanich Taylor peacefully passed away at home on May 26, 2025, and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 84.
Born in Mauston, Wisconsin, Karla was the daughter of the late Carl V. and Leone A. Fermanich. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Dennis Taylor of Marietta, Georgia; their children, Tracy and Kevin Bannon, Brian Taylor, and Terri Taylor and Gregg Ludlam; grandchildren, Kyle and Ellie Bannon, Konner Bannon, and Kaelyn Bannon; great-grandchildren, Emily and Layla Bannon; and her beloved grand-dog, Coco Chanel. She is also survived by her brother, Nick Fermanich; Dennis’s sister, Sherree Hemby; their spouses; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Karla graduated from Marietta High School and went on to attend Lynchburg College, earning a degree in Education, and it was there she met Dennis. They settled in Marietta, Georgia, where they raised their three children. Karla taught 2nd and 3rd grade at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Marietta for 26 years, specializing in reading. She was a passionate and dedicated educator who often said, “If you were in my class, you left knowing something.”
A vibrant part of the Marietta community, Karla was involved in countless activities: she volunteered as head costume designer for the Georgia Ballet Company, helped with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, participated in Marietta High School alumni events, and later served as a docent for the Sacred Art of Russia exhibit at the Cobb Galleria.
Karla and Dennis were long-time members of the Blackwell Squares square-dancing club and enjoyed an adventurous life together — from sailing and camping to traveling the world. Karla had a zest for life: she loved gardening, sewing, playing the piano, and always had fast-paced music playing. She encouraged her family to play music and shared her love for lively things — especially her red Oldsmobile Delta 88 with the loud horn, which she drove proudly. She cherished her book club ladies and the joy they shared reading new books together each month — always finding laughter, insight, and connection through their stories.
Karla never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone into her home with warmth and joy and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and faith.

My mother, Mardy Wooden, and I first had the please of being introduced to dear Karla by Sandy Kiphart at Book Club. What a gem! Karla was easy to love and had a magnetic personality. We cherished her and are so sorry to share that we will not be present for the services due to an out of state trip already in place for a family member’s graduation. We will be with you in spirit and are happy to support the family with whatever we can to ease the pain of this massive loss.
I first met Karla when her daughter began dating my brother Kevin. As their relationship grew into marriage, she welcomed Kevin and all his family into hers. I remember lots of laughs, her great smile, the twinkle in her eye, and her great love for those around her. Karla brought me holy water from a shrine in Europe after one of her trips with Dennis. She made every effort to bring God’s love and blessings to those she met. My deepest sympathy to her husband, children, grand and great grandchildren and to her brother and sisters in law. Karla was a great gift to us. Her husband and family were a great gift to her. You all gave her love and support, especially during the past several months when she was ill. No one could have done more to make her entire life special. I am sorry for your loss.
Karla was a wonderful and intelligent addition to book club.
She loved her family and friends .
One of the best people and smartest work I ever met.
I will miss her so much .
Karla was not only a friend, but a beloved teacher! Her kindness, her love for kids came across everyday in her teaching at St. Joseph’s school! She will always be remembered as the kind of teacher I would want my kids to have! God Bless you Karla!
My love and prayers are with you forever! 🙏🥰
I will never forget the hospitality, love and respect given to me every time I visited with Dennis and Karla. Sending prayers and condolences to the Taylor Family and all of their friends. May the good Lord be with you.
To the Taylor Family, I’m so sorry for all of you in the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother. Karla was so pleasant and had a smile for everyone especially her students. She was teaching at St Joseph Scool when I worked there. I’m so glad I knew her and will never forget her. Many blessings to all of you at this sad time.

Our children attended St. Joseph School and we were pleased to have Mrs. Taylor as our son’s third grade teacher. I will always remember how she recognized the strengths in each of her students and fostered love and respect in her classroom. Thank you for your years of dedication to educating children.
Our sons were so fortunate to have Mrs. Taylor as their teacher when attending St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Karla was a brilliant teacher and made school such fun for Daniel and Andrew!
Craig and I are sending our deepest condolences for your loss and will pray for peace as you move forward 🙏

Karla was a bookclub member for about 20 years. We grew to love her for her wit, support and the love she gave us all. I will truly miss her. Her beautiful smile will always shine. Love you Karla forever.
