Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Stuart Rhett Wallace, Jr. was born October 3, 1930, in Dunnellon, FL. He was born to Stuart Rhett Wallace Sr and Edna Yvonne Wallace and was the third of three children.
While attending high schools in Apalachicola and Palatka, FL, Stuart excelled as an athlete lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. During this time he caught the eye and won the heart of the love of his life Marjorie Anne Thomas. After graduating, he joined the Air Force in 1950 and shortly afterward, Stuart and Anne married July 30, 1951. He served four years in the Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sargent.
After his service to our country, he began to build a body of road and bridge engineering knowledge that led him to an opportunity at F&M Concrete Company. Through years of hard work, discipline to self-study and night-school, Stuart eventually rose to the rank as president of the company.
It was while managing F&M Concrete that C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, a much larger road and bridge company, sought out Stuart to serve as General Manager for the entire Florida Division.
Eventually, his success in Florida moved Stuart to the corporate headquarters in Marietta Georgia where he served as a Senior Vice President where he remained until his retirement.
The common bond shared between Stuart, and the C.W Matthews family was the value of a man's integrity and the love of Jesus Christ. These principals were the foundation of their business practices and personal commitment to everyone.
As a member of both First Baptist Church of Bartow, FL and Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, GA., Stuart had a servants heart and worked all his life in leadership serving as deacon, chairman of deacons, chairman of pulpit committees, and teaching Sunday School. It was his custom to share his faith and to show others to trust in the Lord Jesus while living life.
Even though Stuart loved to participate in sports, and as a great athlete himself, he never allowed this to stand in the way of his primary role as husband, daddy to four children and grandfather to three. Although he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and even once scored a hole in one, his favorite way to spend his free time was on a boat out on the waterways skiing with his children.
Preceded in death, was his first son, Stuart Rhett Wallace, III. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-eight years, Marjorie Anne Wallace, daughters Twyla Jo Riggins of Marietta, GA, Leslie Anne Coon of Apalachicola, son Dale Wallace, Daughter in law, Nancy Wallace of Athens, GA , sons in law, Perry Riggins and George Coon, grandchildren, Stuart Rhett Wallace, IV, Natalie Kate Wallace, and Annabelle Lee Wallace.
