Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Renato Grimaldo was known for spreading love, giving great hugs, and telling good jokes that if you weren’t paying attention might just go over your head.
Renato passed away on Wednesday, April 10th in his hometown of Marietta, Ga. at 1:48 a.m. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Luz Grimaldo, father, Juan Grimaldo, brothers, Dany, Sergio and Diego, sister, Bianca, sister-in-law America Grimaldo and loved one Clare Callahan.
Renato was born on July 17th, 1990 and loved to make his own coffee. Even on the shortest of overnight trips, Renato brought his own gear to make his favorite cup of coffee each morning. He enjoyed sitting down with his guitar, playing and listening to music, reading, hiking, and being surrounded by the people he loved most. If he wasn’t wearing a tie-dye shirt featuring one of his favorite bands, he was wearing a UGA polo to support his school.
Renato graduated from Marietta High School before earning a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). He was a dedicated employee of WellStar Health System.
Visitation service will be Sunday, April 14 from 2:30 - 5 p.m. at Southern Cremations & Funerals at Cheatham Hill (1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064). The service will be held at the Columbarium. The Grimaldo family invites everyone to join us in prayer and adoration to pay respects to the beautiful life that Renato carried. Renato’s funeral will take place at Christ The King Catholic Church (2699 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305) on Tuesday, April 16th at 10 a.m. A reception celebrating Renato’s life will follow the service at Fado’s (273 Buckhead Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30305).
Even in the depths of his illness, Renato’s focus remained on his family. He loved them with all his being. He constantly pointed his friends and even strangers to his mother’s cancer fund campaign. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the Grimaldo family asks that any material donations be
directed towards Luz Grimaldo’s current fight against liver cancer by visiting GoFundMe.com online, and searching ‘Mila Beats Cancer’.

Renato was an intelligent, respectful and happy student at Dunleith Elementary. I was so proud of his academic accomplishments and that we shared our love for our GA Bulldawgs. His face was a beacon of happiness the night he introduced me to his beloved Claire. It is unfathomable that I will never see his beautiful smile again. One day, in a more beautiful place and time, we meet and we say “Go Dawgs!” I love you Renato❤️🤗🐬
I met Renato a little over two years ago. He came to my office for his preop class wearing a tee shirt with a small teddy bear on the front. He was so sweet and kind. I remember thinking to myself “he really is a soft, loving teddy bear”. I learned over the next two years, not only was he a precious teddy bear, but he was a mighty, strong warrior. I have never seen a person fight so hard and look cancer directly in the face and say, “I am not afraid of you, give my your worst, I can beat you”. I remember after his initial surgery, I walked in his room and he was sitting up in bed walking on his Masters homework on his laptop! He never gave up on his goals. I always received a beautiful smile from him when I came to see him…and usually a sweet hug, also. I can still hear his voice saying “hi, nurse Nancy!” They tell nurses not to get close to your patients, that you need to keep boundaries. Well, I’m here to say that I loved Renato, he could have easily been the son I never had. He was one of the most special, precious people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I called him “my amazing Renato”. Go Dawgs! I will always remember you my sweet friend.
Dany — I am sorry to hear the news of your brother’s passing. I am praying for your family with hopes of you finding some comfort during this difficult time. With deepest sympathy — Scott Humphries
